Barbados Association for the Blind and Deaf, Fun Day Activities

Brother Welch who is blind asked if we could get some missionaries to help with the Barbados Association for the Blind and Deaf "Fun Day".  We got some of the missionaries to help set up the tents and then the missionaries helped with the activities the next day.

Putting together the tent frames.

Putting the top on.

Putting the legs on.

This one was in the wrong spot so it had to be moved.

I like his t-shirt.  And yes, he is blind.

Sack race.  These guys are blind.  We just made a lot of noise and they raced to the noise.

Egg race.  The runners had helpers to guide them.  Two of the Sister Missionaries were guides.

Children's sack rare.

Who would have thought that you didn't need sight to race.  We were unable to stay for all of the events.  Later that day they played cricket.  This was a lot of fun and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Our two super heroes, just look at those socks.  This is Elder Woodruff and Elder Ort.

Barbados Wildlife Reserve

Just had to go see wildlife other than the missionaries.  OK, just kidding the missionaries aren't that wild.  But who can be sure when you go somewhere with 18 missionaries.  These animals are not native to Barbados.  They are kept in a controlled area but the visitors walk in among them.

The caiman must not care for turtle soup.  The turtles use them like logs.
There was only a short wall between them and us.

The deer aren't big enough to get much venison from.  But they sure are cute.

Sure glad this fellow was in a cage he couldn't get out of and I couldn't get into.

Iguana.  They say it tastes like chicken.  I'm afraid to try it because then when I eat chicken I'll think it tastes like iguana.

Colorful parrots.

Really colorful parrot.

Guinea fowl.

Peacock.

Capybara.

Barbados green monkey.  These guys could be called native.  The came to Barbados on ships as pets and some got loose and they are all over Barbados now.

Another flower picture.

Yep, that's me a basket case.

This was a fun day of seeing wildlife and being with the missionaries.

Baptism in the Ocean

It is absolutely wonderful to see some one accept the Gospel and be baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This baptism was at Miami Beach here in Barbados.
The waves were a little rough,

But then the waters calmed so the baptism could proceed.

We don't get to see many baptisms in the ocean, most are done in the baptismal font at the Chapel.  Two people were baptized on this date.  What a wonderful opportunity that has opened for them.  They are now on the road back to Our Father in Heaven.

Visit to the British High Commisioner's House, Barbados

We went to the open house at the British High Commissioner's residence in Barbados.  It is quite a grand house.  We saw the Princes Margaret bedroom.  This is where she  stays when she visits Barbados.  Elder Moore asked if the one next to it was the Queen Elizabeth bedroom.  Of course we saw a lot more rooms than that.  The High Commissioner's living area was off limits.

Elder and Sister Moore in the garden.

Just a part of the people who attended the open house.
Sure is a grand house.

Zone Conference in Barbados

Once again we met with President Mehr in Zone Conference.  It is always great to be in a meeting when he is teaching how to be effective missionaries and how to be a better follower of Jesus Christ.

We get to prepare the noon meal for the missionaries.  Here we are in the kitchen after all is cleaned up.  Elder Moore just had to have a soda.

What a good looking group.  These are not all from Barbados.  We also had six missionaries from Grenada, President and Sister Mehr, and the Assistants to the President.
